Communities of practice (CoPs)

This CoP is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences in the field of biodiversity.

Convenor: Milly Clover, Nottingham Trent University

This CoP is open to EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences in the field of waste management including reuse and recycling, and the circular economy.

The education for sustainable development community of practice (ESD CoP) is a space for post-16 education staff working to deliver education aimed at building a fairer, more sustainable world. The group is led by the EAUC, with support from our partners at Learning for Sustainability Scotland.

We run mailing lists for ESD in both further education and higher education.

This CoP is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences in relation to energy and water management.

EAUC and the Wellcome Trust have launched a Community of Practice for the Environmental Sustainability Concordat.

The Concordat for Environmental Sustainability in Research and Innovation Practice is aimed at organisations across the UK Research and Innovation Sector. Organisations from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Innovation and Research Funders and Independent Research Institutions can participate in a network practice to share ideas and best practices within the sector.

This is a dedicated network to facilitate dialogue and knowledge exchange specific to the FE sector. This network is open to EAUC educational college members.

This CoP is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences on living labs. A university or college living lab is a means to address real-world institutional problems using a dynamic partnerships between all the institution's stakeholder groups.

This CoP is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences in relation to managing climate risk.

The education members network is the email forum enabling you to ask questions, share and learn with your peers across the EAUC educational membership. It is only available to EAUC educational members.

This is an opportunity to connect further and higher education institutions through a dedicated network that will facilitate dialogue and knowledge exchange specific to insetting and offsetting. This group is open to EAUC educational members.

Join our Scope 3 email network to keep up-to-date on progress towards tools and shared methodologies. You can join the overarching Scope 3 network and any of the subgroups:

These are open to all EAUC educational members.

Successfully communicating information about key sustainability initiatives and topics, among the plethora of surrounding and conflicting messaging, is a challenge shared by all in Higher and Further Education. This CoP is aimed at knowledge sharing about the best approaches, tools and platforms for communicating to your institution's community. The CoP is open to EAUC educational members.

This community of practice is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share best practice in relation to the running of events sustainably. This includes event management, engagement and communication.

Convenor: Darren Hardwick, University of Sheffield

The focus of the group includes areas such as travel planning, policy, active and sustainable travel. This CoP is open to all EAUC educational members and other invited parties to learn and share experiences.

The aim of this branch is to share lessons learnt and best practice so that all benefit from these experiences. It is open to all EAUC educational members in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The aim of this branch is to share lessons learnt and best practice so that all benefit from these experiences. It is open to all EAUC educational members in Wales.

Other groups

EAUC and BUFDG have set up a working group on investment management and practice.

It is a small group that will be looking at finance and sustainability issues.

BUFDG are the secretariat and Jo Chamberlain, University of Exeter and Richard Jackson, University of Bath are EAUC representatives. Andy Goor, University of St Andrews and Carol Prokopyszyn, University of Manchester are the BUFDG representatives.

It is a closed group but EAUC will feed back outputs of the group to members via enews.

The Responsible Procurement Group (RPG) is a closed group run in conjunction with BUFDG. It aims to identify, share and promote best practice on responsible procurement throughout the sector and to stimulate the development of resources, principles and guidance to support members. We will share all tools, resources and outputs across BUFDG and EAUC memberships.

Sub groups include:

  • Supply chain climate action (chair: Harriet Wallace, Imperial College)

  • Circular economy & waste reduction (chairs: Jo Dainton, University of the West of England & Sion Pickering, University of Edinburgh)

  • GHG measurement and reporting (chairs: Harriet Wallace, Imperial College London and Charlotte Wood, Nottingham Trent University)
